Attention Parents:

How We Turn Boys Into Men

And How We Can Help Your Son Also

The Right Strategy Leads to the Best Outcomes

“Our goal is to help your son aged 9 – 16 to become

  • purpose-driven,
  • principle-centered, and
  • achievement-focused.”

Sheldon Nix, Ph.D., M.S.W.
Founder, Project Manhood

Component 1: Weekly Group Sessions

Project Manhood weekly group sessions have always been the center of the program.  A group of men with a group of boys, talking honestly about life and what it really takes to live it effectively and successfully as a mature and responsible man, and along the way teaching key manhood lessons and social-emotional (SEL) skills from evidence-based curricula proven to be powerful and easy to use.

“They challenged me to reach out to my dad who I haven’t seen for a long time. And I got to spend an overnight with him. It was cool.”

Component 2: Mentoring and Coaching

A Mentor-Coach is a man who cares about a boy and guides him to true manhood.

Most men in Project Manhood serve in the role of a Mentor-Coach.

A Mentor listens, cares, and shares his own life with a boy.  A Coach teaches a boy how to handle life, applying the lessons the boy has learned in the group sessions.

Mentor-Coaches in Project Manhood are the keys to why boys stay in the program–because most boys are absolutely starving for a man to care and to share honestly and without judgment.

Component 3: Life Lounge
(Fun, Games, Music, Sports)

We’ve learned that Project Manhood weekly group sessions have need to not just teach boys key aspects of manhood but also give them a more informal, non-structured time and safe space to “de-stress,” hang out, listen to music, play games, and perhaps even sports, allowing the men in the room to chat informally with them and find out how they are really doing.  We call it “Life Lounge.”

For Church and Nonprofit programs, it lasts about an hour.

For 1-hour School programs during the day or right after school, it lasts about 15 minutes.

Component 4: Entrepreneurship Training

Entrepreneurship training teaches boys key principles of being a man--and rewards them tangibly for learning them.

In the Project Manhood Entrepreneurship component, boys learn best practices for starting and running a business, using a curriculum customized by Dr. Nix, a certified small business coach.

Then the boys actually start a business and earn money running it as their reward.

Component 5: Parent Training
Helping Parents Raise Boys
Raising boys is not easy, especially as they get older.  Project Manhood uses a multi-media curriculum to teach parents key skills for raising responsible boys.  We also have additional sessions just for dads using our own curriculum “A Father for Life” written by Dr. Nix and Rev. Darrel V. Freeman, M.A..
