Are You Preparing Your Boys for the Real World?

Project Manhood Does.

Welcome to the Project Manhood Community

A Proven Program that Trains Boys to Be Men and Coaches Men to Succeed

Since 1991, we’ve been helping churches, schools, and nonprofits transform the lives of boys and men.

Project Manhood in Churches

Project Manhood in Schools and Agencies

In 1991, Rev. Sheldon Nix, Ph.D, M.S.W., concerned about the plight of Black and Latino boys, founded Project Manhood in Camden, NJ.  With a team of men, he launched a program with five Black and Latino churches that recruited 120 boys in just five weeks.  In 1996 he published two curricula–one for boys and one for men–that have been bought by thousands of churches. Over the years he has trained dozens of churches in how to launch and operate a Project Manhood program.

While Project Manhood has operated in a few schools beginning in 2002, in the last 10 years many more schools have begun operating Project Manhood programs. Some nonprofit agencies also operate a program. These evidenced-based programs focus on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and developmental asset building, using evidence-based curricula.  School programs usually operate during the school day, while agency programs are after school.

Imagine the Possibilities of Mature, Competent Boys

A generation of boys is being lost to powerful, destructive forces in society.  But this does not need to happen. We can do better. Much better.  Project Manhood produces boys who are on track to real success and happiness in life.

Too many boys wander through life not knowing where they are going. Once they are men, they continue drifting. But boys who graduate from Project Manhood programs have a clear sense of purpose.

Project Manhood boys do better in school academically and socially.  Parents find them easier to raise and talk with. Teachers report that they participate more and act out less. In short, they are on their way to success in life.

All of us do what we’ve seen others doing until we learn better.  Project Manhood gives boys the strategies they need to be successful in life.  We teach them how to set a strategy to achieve their goals, and then to stick with that strategy despite challenges.

Who We Help

We work with churches, schools, and nonprofit organizations to quickly launch Project Manhood programs for their middle school and high school boys.

While the core principles and strategies of the program are the same in each setting, there are differences that make them appropriate for each environment.
